Electrified CO2 Capture for Hard-to-Abate Sectors
Unlocking Electrified Carbon Capture for Industry
Welcome to the PandORA project (Electrified Post-combustion capture and partial Oxyfuel Retrofitted to hArd-to-abate sectors). PandORA advances and benchmarks electrified CO2 capture technologies for hard-to-abate sectors, with a focus on cement and power. By demonstrating and benchmarking electrified capture solutions at TRL5-7, PandORA supports the transition toward a carbon-neutral society aligned with 2050 climate objectives.
Expected Impact
PandORA contributes to climate neutrality by advancing electrified CO2 capture systems that reduce reliance on fossil fuels while remaining compatible with industrial retrofit constraints.
Key expected contributions include
- Demonstration and benchmarking of electrified CO2 capture technologies at TRL5–7
- Electricity intensity targets comparable to benchmark electrified capture levels (~400 kWhe per ton of CO2 captured)
- Reduction of amine emissions to below 100 parts per billion (ppb) through dedicated mitigation technology development
- Validation of electrodialysis solvent reclaiming at industrially relevant scale, targeting high solvent recovery rates
- Assessment of hybrid and fully electrified calciner concepts aiming to reduce fuel consumption in cement production
Our Approach to Achieving These Goals
- Develop Cost-Competitive Electrified CO2 Capture Technologies
- Electricity intensity targets comparable to benchmark electrified capture levels (~400 kWhe per ton of CO2 captured)
- Advance Hybrid and Electrified Oxyfuel Calciner Concepts for Cement
- Optimise CO2 Conditioning and Purification Through Improved Models and Data
- Reduce Emissions and Improve Solvent Management Performance
